Feature in Brief: binax Spatial Configurator

What it is

Spatial Configurator is the easy user control by which the experienced wearer can steer his hearing instruments in ambiguous situations according to his listening preferences.

Spatial Configurator Span allows the wearer to control whether the hearing instruments should focus on the speaker from the front, pick up the soundscape from all around him, or anywhere in between. Some use cases:

  • Zoom out: when trying to enjoy a nice day at the park, but someone nearby is chatting loudly on the phone
  • Zoom in: when trying to pay attention in a lecture hall, but someone nearby is carrying on a distracting conversation.

Spatial Configurator Direction allows the wearer to dictate to where should the directional microphones focus, whether it is the front, back, or either side. It’s great for situations when it’s hard to face the speaker: such as when the wearer is walking with someone and carrying on a conversation at the same time (focus to the side), or if the wearer is wheelchair bound and needs to hear the caretaker pushing the wheelchair in noisy environments (focus to back).

Spatial Configurator gives the wearer direct control over whether the hearing instruments should zoom in/out (Span), or focus to a particular direction.

How it works

Spatial Configurator serves as a manual override for the acoustic situation detection.

Depending on whether the wearer wants to focus to the front, or hear all around him, Spatial Configurator Span adjusts a number of hearing instrument features including the directional microphone system with Narrow Directionality, noise reduction, frequency shaping, gain, and compression. It can be controlled either by a dedicated rocker switch on the hearing instrument housing, or via easyTek and easyTek App.

On the other hand, the Spatial Configurator Direction acts like a manual Spatial SpeechFocus in 7bx hearing instruments, allowing the wearer to dictate to where should the directional microphones focus, whether it is the front, back, or either side. In 5bx hearing instruments, it acts like a manual SpeechFocus (TruEar mode is used when speech is detected as originating directly from the left or right). It can be controlled via easyTek and the easyTek App.
